Designer Alber Elbaz, famous for bringing an air of freshness and rejuvenation to Maison Lanvin while he was the brand’s artistic director (2001-2005), died yesterday at American Hospital in Paris, a victim of COVID 19.
Born in Morocco, he moved to Israel with his family at the age of 10, where he studied fashion. Alber went to New York in the mid-1980s, working for brands like Geoffrey Beene. He moved to Europe and worked for Yves Saint Laurent, before moving to Lanvin, from 2001 to 2015. Alber transformed the brand into a creative and commercial success. Recently Alber Elbaz had successfully created his own brand, AZ Factory.
In this tribute to the designer, I would like to quote one of his famous phrases: ’Elegant is not what you wear, and it’s not about how you wear it, but it’s more about who you are. ” Exactly this way!
